In proximity to the mountains and there can be dramatic storms and heavy clouds. On the plus side, the Croatian winters are among the warmest along the coast; witness the lemon and orange trees laden with fruit in early spring. The Istrian region also enjoys the shelter of the mountains against the strong mistral winds which can blow with a vengeance further west. If you intend to use your property during the winter months, remember heating! While it is warm enough to have lunch outdoors on Christmas Day, it can still be cold during the winter months everywhere along the coast, and shivering in a tiled house designed for coolness is not much fun.
