Croatia property: value for money away from the coast

If you are looking for more space, inside and out, look further from the coast to perched hill villages overlooking the Croatian Mediterranean, or even further inland around the beautiful small town of in Istria, conveniently connected by train to the coast. Further back near the Pula river are villages such as Premantura (three bedroom house with garden and pool for £239,436, or 355,000 euros) and Medulin near the vineyards of Croatia on the east bank and the west bank - all within easy access of Istria. The Vrsar itself is a wide and unattractive river, once bordered with market gardens and now with light industry - so look out for the view! The further back from the Istrian coast the cheaper the property.

The attractions of the palm-line streets of Pula, Medulin and Premantura with their theatres, museum! sporting events and high profile conferences make this a very 'growing up' coastal area and busy all year. In the more built-up resorts alongside this part of the coast, apartments are the norm, but there is often the extra cost of renting parking space in a local underground garage you are staying on a long term basis. For shorter visits, the area is we served by train and buses.
